Dermal Fillers
Fillers are among the most common non-surgical aesthetic procedures. For many reasons such as advancing age, structural reasons, cigarette consumption, gravity and sun exposure the lines on the face become deeper and volume loss occurs. Sometimes, facial symmetries bothering or facial contour reshaping may be desired. Fillers are generally the first choice for the correction of these deformities.
In order to correct the wrinkles formed, filleri injection under the depression will provide an elevation with mechanical effect.
Coomonly used fillers approved by the FDA or the "Food and Drug Administration" are listed below:
-
Permanent fillers: Artefill, consisting of Polymethylmethacrylate spheres in bovine collagen, is the only filling material permitted by the FDA.
-
Semi-permanent fillers: Sculptra and Radiesse are the examples. Sculptra contains Poly-L-Lactic acid. Radiesse contains hydroxyapatite particles which are also found in bones. They are used for only nasolabial fold or zygomatic area .
-
Hyaluronic Acid based fillers: Hyaluronic acid is one of the basic elements of the intercellular space that plays a vital role in substance exchange between blood and cells. The most popular brands are Juvaderm and Restylane.
Most commonly indicate areas for filler injections:

Any body region with volume loss caused by previous surgeries, infections, accidents or congenital reasons.
It is an attractive option to solve problems radically with a permanent filling material. However, permanent or long acting fillers are more likely to cause serious complications. Early or late infection attacks, allergic reactions , migration of the material, visible granulomas (tender lumps under the skin), skin retraction or pigmentation may occur suddenly even many years after the application. Unfortunately it may not be possible to correct some of these problems. There are no permenant filler materials approved by the FDA for breast, leg or butt.
My first choice is always hyaluronic acid based fillers when a rapid and easy solution for volume restoration is needed.
Each manufacturer provides different subtypes of fillers appropriate for specific regions.
That is, filler to augment malar bones or cheek should not be used for lips or eyelids,
The application should be carried out by an experienced doctor in sterile conditions.
"Botox and PRP" are perfect supporters of fillers. Filler, PRP and Botox trio is the first step in facial rejuvenation treatment. It provides easy recovery with satisfavtory results.
Fillers are applied under topical anesthetic cream and ice application. Very rarely, sedation anesthesia may be needed for patients with low pain treshold. Majority of the fillers contain local anesthetics to relieve pain during the procedure. Local anesthetics can also be added to the fillers prior to injection for patient comfort .
