Surgery under general, sedation or epidural anesthesia takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. The prosthesis is placed through a 4 cm incision, which is placed in the knee fold. Following the insertion of the prosthesis, compressive stockings are worn to reduce swelling and prevent bleeding. This is a very straight operation with predictable results.

Required fat for transfer is often harvested from the thighs or belly. Liposuction can be used as a supportive procedure for both fat graft harvesting and liposculpture to shape knee and thigh regions.
