Postoperative Period

In a very recent study, surgical treatment of gynecomastia seemed to be beneficial for several psychological domains. Among these were vitality, emotional discomfort, limitations due to physical aspects and limitations due to pain. There was a trend of improvement in quality of life and psychological health after surgery  (Sollie 2018).

All most all of the patients are discharged on the evening of surgery. If drains are used, they are removed within 24-28 hours, so patients are discharged home with drains.  Overall patient satisfaction, hospital bed-days saved and low complication rates showed the efficacy of this early discharge policy. (Chadka 2004)

Postoperative pain is controlled with common oral pain relievers.

Elastic bandages or special compression garments should be worn  for 3 weeks after surgery.

Returning to daily life is very fast, but heavy exercises should be prevented for 6 weeks.

It is possible to return to normal business life during the first week, unless  heavy physical activity is reqired. Sports activities, including the use of the arm and chest muscles, are restricted for 6 weeks.
