General or sedation anesthesia are possible options for surgery. Average operation time is 2 hours for full brachioplasty whereas minimal incision arm lifts last usually shorter.
There are two types of incision to be selected depending on the degree of sagging in the skin.
In patients with minor sagging, minimal incision arm lift is considered. Possible scars remain within the arm pit and do not extend into the arm. Lifting is done through the cut placed in a armpit fold (shown in the figure by the blue line). Often, liposuction is part of this surgery. Drains are not required.
Self absorbing stitches are used for skin suturation.
In people with severe sagging, an incision extending from the armpit pit to the elbow area is used. This incision is placed in the inner side of the arm so that it can not be seen easily. It is marked with a red line in the figure. Liposuction is used in selected cases. The desired shape is given to the arm with the inner stitches . Aesthetic skin closure is done with self absorbing stitches. Drains are often used.
