Post-operative period
It is an outpatient procedure so you can go home the same day. Usually resting for a couple of hours is enough. One night stay is optional for out of town patients. Secondary cases requiring costal cartilage repair are advised to stay one night.
Post-operative period is usually painless. While 90-95% of my patients said that there was no pain at all, the remaining patients said that they took a simple painkiller only on the first day. Individual’s own threshold for pain as well as the extent of the surgery are also critical factors. Atraumatic delicate surgery may be another factor.
Ice application will be recommended on the first day. Although bruising and eyelid swelling differ from person to person; it takes 2-3 days for the swelling of the eyelids to disappear and 5-10 days for the bruises to disappear completely. Atraumatic approach + cooling during the surgery and ice + ointments to be applied after surgery are helpful to reduce bruising and swelling.
The first check is on the 6th day (5-7th day) . During this control, rhinoplasty splints outside and inside the nose are removed. If surgery was performed with open rhinoplasty technique, the sutures at the tip of the nose are also removed at this control.
It usually takes 6 months to 1 year for the nose to take its final shape. During this period, edema decreases gradually and nose reaches normal tissue flexibility. Edema, which creates fullness in the external contours of the nose in the early period, may also narrow airway passage. Of course, these swellings are temporary and with a rapid recovery process in the first weeks and months, a nose a more elegant appearance and better breathing is achieved.
