Operation
The operation will take 1 - 3.5 hours. Prolonged operative time is required especially in severe septal deviation and secondary cases.
The surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia. General anesthesia is the first choice due to it's reliability and quality. However, the number of patients who prefer sedation and local anesthesia is not small.
Septal deviations are corrected and conchas are reduced by laser or radiofrequency. The external appearance of the nose is shaped within the framework of the plan made in the preoperative period.
On the other hand, in cases with severe bone and cartilage loss (which is called "saddle nose-saddle nose" deformity), operative period can be up to 4-7 hours. In such cases, the necessity of using ear or rib cartilage is the main factor in the prolonged duration.
Thermoplastic splints placed on the nose are for reducing the post-operative edema and to protect the nose against traumas. This splint is removed at 5-7th days.
In the presence of turbinate hypertrophy or severe septal deviation a pair of silicone splints are placed inside the nose. Breathing through the nose is possible with the use of these silicone splints. In addition, you will not feel any pain while they are being removed as they do not adhere to the surrounding tissue. Silicone splints are also removed at 3-7th days depending on the severity of the deformity.
